Partners

The advice office is part of a network of local service providers, and works on a daily basis with partners, receiving and making case referrals. In 2021, our partners referred 124 cases to us, while we in turn referred 165 cases to them. When we referred cases, we usually negotiated on behalf of clients, monitoring and following up cases to ensure that clients received the best possible service.

In general the office works closely with the police, who are its main partner. The police often refer cases to us and we refer cases for protection orders or to lay a charge to them. We refer cases of maintenance to the magistrate court, and the orders are then served by the police.

On cases of child abuse we work closely with social workers at The Department of Social Development and refer cases to them. We work closely with traditional leaders, and with the Department of Education, getting permission to visit schools to address learners. We work with community care-givers at The Department of Health, referring cases to eachother, and they help to invite people to our workshops, as do local councillors.

We worked with the following NGOs, referring cases to them: Endumeni Hospice, which provides food parcels and a soup kitchen; Angel Care Centre, a rape crisis centre; Phethisa Survivors, which helps victims of domestic violence; and SANCA, who give counselling and rehabilitation to people addicted to alcohol and illegal drugs.
